Divinely Refined Interiors
One Day Redecorating for Stylish, Functional and Comfortable Rooms
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an interior refiner?

Divinely Refined Interiors "redecorates in one day" and develops written design plans using what you have as the foundation for the design.  Using what you have is a key element of the process, as is working directly with the client while on site to determine needs, likes/dislikes, and your personal style.  You and the refiner work together during the consultation to develop a true reflection of your tastes, even if you don't know your exact style.

How is an interior refiner different from an interior designer?

Unlike an interior designer, a refiner does not serve as the project manager for large scale remodels (including tearing down walls/structures and supervising new construction).  A refiner employs the "use what you have" concept to redecorate in one day, and will develop comprehensive written design plans for the client based on the consultation.  Refiners charge a lot less for their services than do designers, because our services are different in scope.

How is an interior refiner different from a real estate "stager"?

It is important to note, that regardless of how long you plan to stay in your home, it is most always going to be the best investment you have.  So make the most of your home now, by investing in it early on.  Staging usually requires the rental of furniture and accessories to make it shine, which translates into potentially thousands of dollars in rental costs.  By investing early on using Divinely Refined Interiors your home will get a polished look that transcends any design style (and therefore appeals to many), and you get the added enjoyment of living in a stylish, yet comfortable space.

How do I know an interior refiner is right for me?

An interior refiner is right for you if you answer yes to any of the following questions:

Do you like what you have, but don’t feel comfortable in your space?
Do you want a designer look without the designer price?
Do you want a new look for your home, but don’t want to buy all new furnishings?
Do you have a “trouble spot” in your home, but can’t figure out the design solution?
Do you need to spruce up your home for resale, and get the maximum punch for minimum price?
Do you need help placing your existing furniture and accessories in a newly bought home?

Do you need help choosing room (paint) colors, accessories and art?

What type of homes does a refiner work in?

Divinely Refined Interiors will work in any home (whether you rent or own), with any style to create a plan that is right for you and your family.

How does an interior refiner work?  How long does it take?

A typical one-room consultation takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the room size.  During that time, I will work with you to review the room situation, determine your needs, preferences, and identify the solutions for creating the comfortable, functional space you want.  About half of the consultations do involve furniture and accessory rearrangement (which is done by the refiner and the client).

What can I expect at the end of the project?

You will receive a comprehensive written design plan detailing specifics agreed upon during the consultation for each room worked on.  Based on the professional recommendations, the plan will reflect your needs and wants.  This will include, but is not limited to, potential new furniture, accessories, lighting needs, and who you can call for additional service (as necessary).

What are the fees?  When do you pay?

All the room consultation fees (including Refining for Resale and Move-Ins) are based on room size, and when necessary some travel time if outside the standard travel perimeter.  The room consultation fees are not hourly or commission-based as some interior design services.  When you schedule your appointment, you will schedule a specific room or service and get the fee quote then, before the consultation takes place.  So regardless of how long it takes for a consultation, you know what you are paying upfront for each room.  You pay that day at the end of the consultation.

What if I like all my furniture and want to keep it?

That's great!  It's wonderful to start with things you already love.  Sometimes, it's hard to recognize what the problems are, and you just need the professional advice to learn what is going wrong.  It may be that the furniture is great, but there are other things going on in the room that aren't quite right.  Divinely Refined Interiors can provide that professional advice.

What if I want to get rid of everything and start over?

That's ok too - but don't throw anything out yet.  You never know what may be a hidden treasure.  We can work with you to determine the mistakes and possibly save you money and time.  And if it still isn't right, we can recommend furniture/accessories/art and even do personal shopping (as an additional service).

What if I am not happy with the design plan?

Good question!  Because you work with the refiner during the consultation, your personal style and preferences will be the driving force behind the professional recommendations for your space.  Therefore, the final plan will reflect what you want and what you like because you have been an active contributor.

Do I get to keep the design plan?

Absolutely!  That is your blueprint for a great space - you will use the plan as a checklist of additional things that need to be fixed (that were not done during the consultation) and to keep you on track for completing the perfect space.
